What Happens When Baby Teeth Come In?

One of the most important time’s of a baby’s development is when their teeth come in.  A commonly unknown fact is that babies are born with all their underdeveloped teeth within their jaws.  These underdeveloped teeth are referred to as tooth buds, which are the foundations of what will eventually become their first set of teeth.  Once they are ready, the tooth buds will push through the gums.

When do baby teeth appear?

The reason baby teeth are very important to health and development is that they help them chew, smile, and speak.  While every baby is different, the first teeth to come in are usually located in the top and bottom near the front around months four to six.

Teething

Common signs of a baby teething are drooling, loss of appetite, fussiness, lack of sleep, and sore gums.  To remedy this, gently rubbing your with a clean finger or a cool teething ring may help sooth them.  It is advised to avoid over the counter medicine unless given direction by your pediatrician.

When do adult teeth appear?

By the age of three, most children will have their full set of 20 baby teeth.  And, around the age of 6, their adult teeth will usually start to appear.
